Instructions:
The bag is made in 2 steps
- Step 1 – the sides
- Step 2 – joining the sides and the tassel
The camel stitch
The camel stitch (cs) is going to be used from round 1 to round 11. The camel stitch is also known as single crochet through the back bar or the third loop. To crochet the camel stitch, insert hook in the third loop (back bar) and work a normal single crochet.
The knit stitch
The knit stitch is going to be used from round 12 to round 14. To crochet the knit stitch, insert hook between the “legs” of the stitch (rather than the upper portion of the stitch) then work a regular single crochet stitch.
Step 1- The sides
Round 1: make a magic ring. Crochet 6sc into the magic ring. Put a st marker in the first sc made. (6)
Round 2: put 2 camel stitches (cs) in each st right round. (12)
Round 3: *crochet 2 cs in the first st and 1 cs in the next st* repeat from * to * until the round is done. (18)
Round 4: *crochet 2 cs in the first st and 1 cs in each of the next 2 st* repeat from * to * until the round is done. (24)
Round 5: *crochet 2 cs in the first st and 1 cs in each of the next 3 st* repeat from * to * until the round is done. (30)
Round 6: *crochet 2 cs in the first st and 1 cs in each of the next 4 st* repeat from * to * until the round is done. (36)
Round 7: *crochet 2 cs in the first st and 1 cs in each of the next 5 st* repeat from * to * until the round is done. (42)
Round 8: *crochet 2 cs in the first st and 1 cs in each of the next 6 st* repeat from * to * until the round is done. (48)
Round 9: *crochet 2 cs in the first st and 1 cs in each of the next 7 st* repeat from * to * until the round is done. (54)
Round 10: *crochet 2 cs in the first st and 1 cs in each of the next 8 st* repeat from * to * until the round is done. (60)
Round 11: *crochet 2 cs in the first st and 1 cs in each of the next 9 st* repeat from * to * until the round is done. (66)
Round 12: crochet one knit st in each st right round. (66)
Count 24 stitches, start counting from the first stitch and mark the 24th stitch with a st marker, continue counting and mark the 34th stitch
Round 13: put 1 knit st in each stitch until you reach st 24 (the one marked previously). Put 1 knit st in st 24 and chain 20 (this is the bag handle).
Join the chain in st 34 (marked earlier on). Continue with 1 knit st in each of the following stitches until the round is done.
Round 14: put 1 knit st in each stitch until you reach the handle. Crochet single crochet stitches around the handle making sure that there are no gaps between the sc made.
Continue with 1 knit st in each of the following stitches until the round is done. Cut and fasten off the ends.
Repeat from round 1 to round 14 to make the second side of the bag.
Step 2: Joining the side
From the handle count 5 stitches and put a marker (count 5 st and mark again on the other end of the handle). Do this on both side panels of the bag (the sides should face each other).
Start joining from the stitch marked using a tapestry needle until you reach the other st markers (5 st from the handle)
Attaching the tassel
Attach the small metal ring onto the bag (on a desired position) using a tapestry needle. Cut 10 strands of yarn which are about 18 inches long, insert them through the metal ring.
Tie the strands together just below the metal ring. Trim the ends of the strands to get a nice finish.
- Cut and fasten off all the other ends to finish the bag
- Your bag is complete
