The bag is made in 2 steps

  • Step 1 – the bottom and sides
  • Step 2 – the handle

Step 1- The Bottom and sides

Foundation round: make a slip knot and chain ch 23. Work 1sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and mark it. Continue with 1 sc in the next chains until you are at the end of the row. Sc 4 in the last chain. Now continue to crochet in the back of the chains as shown below, put 1 sc in the back of each chain until you are left with one chain (the back of the chain with the first sc) and put 3 sc in that chain.

crochet in the back of the chains

Round 2: 1 sc in the first stitch (remember to mark the first st). Continue with 1 sc in each stitch until you are back at the starting point

Round 3 to round 15:  repeat Round 2

Round 16: starting counting from the st were your bag turns (the stitch at edge), put a st marker in stitch number 12.

Work 1 sc in each st, skip the stitch that you just marked above and chain 2 (this is your button hole) and continue with 1sc in each st until you are back at the starting point.

Round 14: slip st in each st right round. Join the last st to the first with a slip st. Cut and fasten off the ends to finish the sides of the bag

Step 2- The Handle  and button

Put 1 st marker at the edge of the bag, count from there and put a st marker in st 26

Do a slip knot and attach it on one of the marked stitches, chain 55, attach the chain to the other marked st. Work 1sc in the next st from the one marked. From there turn and slip st in each chain until you are back at the starting point. At the starting point, join with a slip stitch into the st besides the one you attached the slip knot in. Cut and fasten off the ends. Sew the button directly opposite the button hole inside the bag. Your bag is complete.
